Restoration Timber

September 14, 2013 by

Dan and his San Francisco-based boutique agency, Sp3d, was commissioned to design an identity and marketing package for a reclaimed-wood company. Most of the wood comes from old barns, or is pulled out from riverbeds that were once used to float logs to wood mills. The resulting product is very refined, old-growth wood that has been preserved by cold river water. Dan was inspired by turn-of-the-century art and craftsmanship for Restoration Timber. The Shaker movement also inspired the art and design of the brand—a metaphor for seasoned, high-quality wood.

September 14, 2013 by

Dan and his San Francisco-based boutique agency, Sp3d, was contracted to help Wells Fargo Bank find ways to tap banking’s hidden audience, though their ATM customers.

The ATM awareness project was commissioned by the Wells Fargo Cross Channel Distribution and Marketing Group. Dan and Sp3d developed engaging hypothetical advertising to get the attention of its ATM customers, who were tuning-out the seven-second “Please Wait” screen—valuable cross-channel messaging real estate.

12 animated ad treatments were created for testing. This work was vastly different from any previous ATM ads at Wells Fargo. From the study, Wells Fargo learned more about what people notice during ATM transactions and provided Wells Fargo with a direction for developing future ATM advertising.

September 14, 2013 by

Headquartered in Natick, Massachusetts, Vivox, Inc. provides managed communication services in the form of integrated voice chat, Instant Messaging and presence to online games, virtual worlds and other online communities. Vivox created technology and an application called Vivox Vring that allowed for voice chatting directly through Facebook. The technology was later adapted to the T-Mobile cellular network to include inline calling within Facebook, and rebranded T-Mobile Bobsled.

Dan was a consulting UX designer, working with development on the first version of Vivox Vring, as a Facebook app as well as with inline Facebook plugin user controls so you could voice chat with anyone on the Facebook network. The design work included branding as well as interface work. After a partnership agreement was made with T-Mobile, Dan worked directly with T-Mobile’s development team on updating the interface to T-Mobile’s standards.
