Digital Dysfunctions

Digital Dysfunctions is a sound library created by Chris Grigg, who is best known as a member of Negativland. The Digital Dysfunctions sound library was based on the idea that digital processing makes it possible to absolutely murder sound in lots of new, complex, grating, harsh, organic, electronic, alien, unpredictable ways.

Dan worked directly with Chris to create innovative artwork for the CD packaging that gave a visual indication of “murdering sound”, by “live scanning” an old oscilloscope.

 

Kid Scoop

Kid Scoop enables children to express their basic desire to know about, and become active participants in their local community. Kid Scoop enlists the active use of the community newspaper in the classroom to accomplish its mission. The program features an in-paper section for and by children, as well as a unique team approach that involves newspapers, schools, and community supporters.

Dan and his San Francisco-based boutique agency, Sp3d, redesigned KidScoop’s website so that it more seamlessly dovetailed with the brand’s newspaper-based publications.

Coyote Point Systems

Coyote Point Systems provides enterprise-class load-balancing traffic management solutions. Its customers range from small companies to the largest of Fortune 500 firms including USA Today, Motorola, and Comcast.

Dan and his San Francisco-based boutique agency, Sp3d, conducted a brand audit to form the right message and design for a print advertising campaign focused on information technology managers. The campaign increased sales by 5%.

Epylon

Epylon was an online education procurement company that streamlined the entire purchasing process for educational facilities. They offered education and government institutions more products and vendors to choose from, and more information to make informed, cost-effective purchasing decisions.

Dan and his San Francisco-based boutique agency, Sp3d, worked with Epylon to reach the education-purchasing market with trade advertising and direct mail, generating response rates of up to 9%.

ZDTV

ZDTV (later called TechTV) was a cable and satellite television network focused on technology. They had two flagship programs: Call for Help was a computer-themed call-in TV show that was broadcast live from San Francisco, California, hosted by Leo Laporte. The Screen Savers also centered around computers, new technologies, and their adaptations in the world, and was hosted by Leo Laporte and Kate Botello.

Dan and his San Francisco-based boutique agency, Sp3d, was contracted to created the Web sites of two these tech-talk television shows for the fledgling ZDTV network. All design work was produced in conjunction with ZDTV’s creative department, coordinating brand and artwork between broadcast and web.

National Managed Healthcare Congress

The National Managed Health Care Congress (NMHCC) is an annual event that connects health care executives across the entire managed care realm to facilitate collaboration for improved business practices. It is owned by IIR Holdings. One of their events was produced in collaboration with Astra-Zeneca, a multinational pharmaceutical and biologics company.

Dan and his San Francisco-based boutique agency, Sp3d, was contracted to design event’s theme and extend it to materials such as the event brochure and a splashy animation for introducing the keynote speaker on a huge screen behind the podium. The artwork needed to illustrate the power of partnerships in healthcare, the theme of that year’s event.
